During the nineteenth century, West Kirby National School was the alternate name for St. Bridget's School. The school was housed at four separate locations between 1825 and 1900. The West Kirby National School began operations in 1825 in a space next to St. Bridget's church tower. Given that West Kirby was a rural area, it is likely that the few students there were the offspring of farmers and farm labourers. On ground near the church, the structure was dismantled in 1848, and a new school was constructed. The current museum is located in the outer offices. On the building's exterior, two old portals that might be labelled Boys and Girls are evident. The students moved in 1864 to Grange School, which was later called the Grammar School and was located on the other side of Grange Hill. The school at St. Bridget's was converted into a space for meetings and Sunday School. The students moved back to a brand-new brick school near St. Bridget's church in 1885. This building included two turrets and a bell tower. On the same site, construction for a new school started in 1965. The last stage was finished in 1968, and it is still largely the same as it is now. In the 1950s and 1960s, the ancient sandstone school building served as a restaurant; more recently, it used as a second classroom. The Charles Dawson Brown museum was established in the hearse-house next to the original school building, and it was still accessible to kids in the changing area through a permanently locked door. The museum offers additional information regarding St. Bridget's School's past.
