As an academically selective school, we do live and even love to learn, and the great GCSE and A Level scores that our pupils obtain each year demonstrate our achievement in this regard. Although academic study is important, we are also dedicated to teaching our pupils life skills. Being a good citizen in the 21st century is complicated but we focus on developing the personal attitudes, skills and attributes that allow our students to navigate life with confidence and set a course of their own choosing. For this reason, starting in September 2016, we will use a compass rose as the primary component of our new school badge. First understanding that "We are what we repeatedly do" and "Excellence is a habit, not an act," was the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. We really believe this to be the case, and our ethos statement enumerates nine characteristics that we demand of all of our staff members and students in order to achieve success. Our ethos statement is available here. These characteristics serve as the foundation of our behaviour system and are incorporated into every job description for our school leaders, ensuring that we truly go above and beyond in our pursuit of continuous improvement. Students and employees at NHGS frequently comment on how much like a "family" the school is. This is a welcoming, secure, and joyful environment in which to study, live, and work. Our mission is to become the school that everyone aspires to attend. Whether you have the time, please visit us in person or online to see if you would like to come along. It also succinctly captures what our school is all about.
