From the Lighthouse Futures Trust
A group of five parents who had trouble locating the encouraging learning environment their kids needed founded the Lighthouse Futures Trust in 2011. Together, they established the country's first free school for children aged 11 to 19 who have learning disabilities or autism spectrum disorders. The motto "everyone deserves to find their place in society" is at the core of what they do. The charity now also creates employment programmes and opportunities for young people aged 16-25 with an autistic spectrum condition and /or learning disability. They have become well-known around the country for their excellent employability programmes, which produce beneficial results for students once they leave full-time college. Lighthouse Futures Trust's internship programmes provide training for employers as well as students, enabling them to be disability confident and removing the uncertainty around employing someone with autism or disabilities. In addition, the nonprofit conducts three social enterprises where students can work and gain experience before starting a paid internship.
