Quick insights from ofsted Powered by AI

This insight was generated by AI, based on latest Ofsted report.

Foundational Skills: Leaders have made reading a focus for the school, especially since the pandemic. Opportunities for pupils to read are planned throughout the curriculum.
Success of the Curriculum: In a few areas like reading and PE, teachers deliver the curriculum well, but other subjects show inconsistencies.
Areas Needing Improvement: Teachers are less clear about how to deliver the curriculum as leaders intend, leading to insecure knowledge before new learning.
Support for Falling Behind: Leaders identify additional support for pupils who struggle to learn to read, helping them become more fluent and accurate readers.
Performance in Maths & Reading: Leaders regularly check how well pupils can read, but poor behaviour disrupts overall learning.
Behaviour and Attitudes: A significant minority disrupts learning; leaders’ expectations of behaviour are not high enough, and there is no shared approach to managing behaviour.
Support for SEND Pupils: Provision for pupils with education, health, and care plans is clear, but variable support for others with SEND remains an issue.
Promotion of Welfare and Safety: Leaders and teachers have strong relationships with families and work closely with professionals to support pupils' safety and welfare.
Managing Bullying and Pupil Safety: Bullying happens, but pupils accept it as normal. Safeguarding systems are well understood and followed correctly.
Parent Feedback: Parents' views are considered through Ofsted Parent View and during inspections.
Parental Involvement: The school involves parents through discussions during the inspection, but specifics on broader engagement activities are not detailed.
Extracurricular Activities: Pupils take part in sports clubs, gardening club, and trips that prepare them for the world of work.
Teacher Engagement: Teachers plan activities enabling pupils to build knowledge securely in subjects like reading and PE.
Impact on Student Progress: Inconsistencies in delivering the curriculum lead to pupils not achieving as well as they should.
Teaching Staff Challenges: Leaders must train subject heads to help teachers effectively deliver the curriculum.
Assessment of Teaching Quality: The trust monitors progress and holds leaders accountable for improvements.

From the Dogsthorpe Academy
It is an honour for me to serve as the Dogsthorpe Academy's principal. As the deputy headteacher at Dogsthorpe Academy since 2014, I've had the good fortune to witness the school's journey into an academy as a member of the Greenwood Academy trust. The Dogsthorpe Academy serves a multicultural neighbourhood. Our students feel secure and content, and they get along with one another well. Our Academy life skills curriculum complements our well-established programme for training personal and social skills. Our team of dedicated employees offers interesting learning opportunities and experiences. In order for them to feel confident and have a good attitude when they leave us to continue their secondary education, we encourage our students to be independent. With parents and carers, we collaborate closely. We consider parents and other carers to be partners in a child's education and cherish the support they give. If there are any issues, parents and carers are asked to get in touch with the Academy. There are various ways for students to get engaged and contribute to academy life, and we believe in listening to our students. We have a Head Boy and Head Girl, an Academy Council, numerous ambassadors, Sports leaders, and House captains. Children can join groups around lunchtime or after school in a variety of extracurricular activities. If you have any queries or would want to visit, kindly get in touch with the Academy.
