From the Captain Cook Primary School
One of the greatest explorers and navigators to set sail from British soil is honoured by having his name given to our institution. On October 27, 1728, James Cook was born in Marton, Cleveland. Before relocating to the nearby town of Ayton in 1736, he was baptised in the Saint Cuthbert parish church in his hometown. He joined the Royal Navy in 1755 after completing apprenticeships in Staithes and Whitby. Between 1768 and 1780, he made three outstanding exploration journeys that figuratively put the Pacific Ocean on the map. We are proud to adopt the names of his ships 'Endeavour', 'Adventure', 'Resolution' and 'Discovery' as our school motto. What better qualities could we aim for than those of creating a thirst for knowledge and discovery of The World, hard work, endeavour and resolution in the face of difficulty?.
