From the Canon Slade CofE School
As a Church of England school, our goal is to fulfil each student's potential and prepare students for life and service in a constantly changing world by offering a quality education in a Christian atmosphere.
As a result of Canon James Slade's establishment of our school in 1855, we have been praying and working for more than 150 years.
A relatively new project, character education, is one that the school welcomes and will pursue starting in September 2015 with all year groups.
As a Christian community, Canon Slade School places a strong emphasis on worshipping God.
During term, a brief act of communal worship is performed in a variety of meeting spaces every morning.
Every year group has two weekly assemblies: one in the Hall, led by the Head of Year, and one in the Chapel, led by the Headteacher or another member of the senior leadership team.
Form tutors spend the remaining portion of the morning assembly leading a brief act of group worship and meditation on each of these days.
The Chaplain composes the notes for these "Thoughts for the Day" every week.
Each Year group participates in Communion Services at least once a term in the Chapel.
Any church school must provide excellent religious instruction, thus we place a great focus on it throughout the entire curriculum.
To help students better understand what religion is, its role and significance in human life, and what it means to make a religious commitment; to encourage students to reflect on human experience and the meaning of life in order to support them in their own personal search for a faith by which to live;
The curriculum in this church school specifically considers the distinctive place and significance of Christianity in and to our society, as well as the fact that our neighbourhood is a multifaith one.
At the conclusion of Year 11, every student will study for a complete GCSE in Religious Studies, and outcomes over many years have been good.
Our dedication to God permeates every aspect of the work we do as a school, and everyone involved helps to foster students' academic, physical, and spiritual development.
We are appreciative that every parent and carer of a student at Canon Slade School completely supports the school's Christian culture.
Similar to this, teaching religious studies to all of our students is regarded as a key and essential component of the comprehensive education we provide.
Since parents and guardians have chosen to enrol their kids in this Christian school, we sincerely hope they won't want to take them out of Religious Studies or Christian worship activities as allowed by Section 25 of the 1944 Education Act.
