Children aged 4 to 18 from various backgrounds can receive an excellent education at Birkdale, a very successful and welcoming school. We devote particular attention to each student's needs, fostering their abilities, character, and self-assurance to lay the strongest possible basis for a fulfilled life. Excellent relationships between students and their teachers are produced in environments where pastoral care is provided to extraordinarily high standards. The school has a strong Christian culture, and students are aware of Birkdale's expectations of them. They also learn good values and a feeling of social duty. Small classes and outstanding teaching, by motivated and gifted staff, produces students with independent and curious minds, able to work together, to challenge ideas and to take the initiative in their learning. Lessons are enjoyable for students, who perform well on exams and are well-prepared for further study. At GCSE, almost two-thirds of results are at A* or A grades, and typically more than half of all A level grades are A* or A. An enormous range of extra-curricular opportunities in sport, music, drama, academic societies and outdoor pursuits nurture the talents of individual students, help to produce well-rounded young people and enrich the life of the community. In many different disciplines, Birkdale has a proven track record of triumphing in regional and national contests.
