Everyday life at Barney, as our school is popularly called, is characterised by a welcoming, family-like setting where kids feel like they belong to a meaningful community and can succeed in and out of the classroom. We foster a sense of accomplishment, hard work, and great fun in a nurturing environment that is supported by top-notch facilities and leads to a strong academic record. In 1900 a wall in school was inscribed with a quotation from writings by John Ruskin: "That country is the richest which nourishes the greatest number of noble and happy human beings." If there is one word we frequently hear used to characterise the environment at Barney, it would be "happy." Although Ruskin's words may have been obscured by numerous coats of paint, his message has endured and is carried out every day by our young people. Our students are beautiful, imaginative, self-assured, kind, and polite young people who are full of humour and personality. They are assisted by committed staff who are aware of and respect each student as an individual. Due to the openness of the school, we urge families to visit and experience our warm and friendly environment firsthand. We also welcome parents, previous students, and friends of the school to join our community.
