Three subjects in history are covered during the academic year, one of which is covered in the second half of each term.
Each of these subjects will be covered during a dedicated History week, with plenty of opportunity for study and writing that will accompany the exploration and investigation of numerous artefacts.

At 11 a.m., St. Matthew's held a 2 minute moment of silence in honour of Remembrance Day, which was flawlessly observed by all.
The school council sold poppies and other commemorative souvenirs to the kids at break and lunchtimes to earn money for the Royal British Legion.
Year 5 students studied the Battle of Britain as part of a broader study of those who were impacted by the war; one of these people was Anne Frank.
The Great Fire of London is a topic that Year 2 classes are currently studying in depth, asking how and why the fire started.
Children get the opportunity to interview people who survived the Great Fire of London and create a timeline of the important occasions.
They had the good fortune to have Fr. Conor speak to Year 6 students about the Egyptians.

Additionally, they produced extensive timelines that included every subject they had studied since Year 3 and connected the various time periods.
The fourth graders began their study of the Victorian era by getting involved and creating a timeline of significant Victorian events.
Key details concerning what was discovered at Stonehenge and biscuits?
By examining some Stonehenge photos and formulating some basic hypotheses on its purpose, students in year three took on the enigma of Stonehenge.
After finishing the first themes, our kids have been displaying some of their amazing work in their history books.
In addition to having nicely organised books that were packed with knowledge, the kids also had a lot of self-assurance and were able to discuss their subjects in great detail.
Y4 Emily "I enjoy history because it allows you to go into the past.
I now know that some of the toys we have were around in 1837!

Our Year 6 children investigated some Ancient Maya artefacts this week taking careful consideration for what they were made from, how they might have been used and what connections they could find between them.
They found that many of the artefacts had connections to their religious convictions.
Year 3 were set the challenge of sequencing different maps of the Roman Empire without having been given any information at all!
They had to use their map reading skills and historical enquiry skills to investigate each one and put them in the correct order to show the expansion of the Roman Empire using the tiniest of clues along the way.
Our History topic is all about Roman Britain, carrying on from learning about the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages.
We explored a range of Roman artefacts this week (touching, feeling and even smelling) to help us learn more about what life was like back in 55AD.
Year 4 have been exploring the Viking invasion of Britain.
After a lot of investigation, examining artefacts and key events in their history as well as scripting and performing a play as Vikings, they've come to their own conclusions.

Year 2's Local History topic was looking at Kitty Wilkinson, someone who quietly set about changing people's lives in the most amazing way.
They found out through looking artefacts and evidence how Britain was plagued by diseases many years ago which were spread because of poor hygiene.
Roman History - Chester trip To finish off their topic on Roman Britain, Year 3 spent the day in Chester - an old Roman city.
Year 4 linked their History topic of the Vikings to their messy morning by having a morning of ship building.
