From the School
We adhere to the Jesuit Values at St. Mary's. What kind of individuals do we hope our students develop into? This is the question that prompted the creation of the Jesuit Pupil Profile in 2013. These ideals are based on the gospel of Jesus Christ and are not chosen at random; rather, they provide a vision of what a decent and moral person ought to be. The values are stated and grouped in pairs in the tree graphic (colour coded). The idea is that the tree represents our children's development and that it is our collective duty to aid in their progress in these areas. The values pairs will be incorporated into our schedule for Collective Worship, but more significantly, they will be fostered and modelled through our daily interactions at St. Mary's.

The school continues to be rated as good.

Leaders have worked with great determination and effort to build upon and develop key areas of the school, leading to greater consistency in teaching and improving outcomes for pupils.

Safeguarding arrangements are fit for purpose, staff have a clear understanding of procedures and use them appropriately, and pupils feel safe in school.

Leaders need to ensure that middle ability pupils, particularly girls, are challenged in writing, and that resources are more suitable for boys in early years.

Subject leaders are using information to develop pupils’ ability to improve the quality of their written work, particularly in regards to vocabulary choices.

Governors ensure that leaders are held accountable for maintaining high standards of teaching and learning, and current pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, make good progress.

Leaders should ensure that examples of high-quality practice continue to be shared with teachers so that more pupils make rapid and sustained progress, and that learning experiences of children in the Reception Class continue to be extended through richer and more stimulating opportunities in the outdoor learning area.

Learning experiences of children in Reception Class can be extended through richer and more stimulating opportunities in the outdoor learning area.

The letter is being copied to the chair of the governing body, the director of education for the Diocese of Clifton, the regional schools commissioner and the director of children’s services for South Gloucestershire.

The letter will be published on the Ofsted website.
