From the Rookwood School
For kids between the ages of 2 and 16, Rookwood is a non-selective co-educational boarding school. We strive to give all of our students access to a comprehensive, balanced curriculum that includes a good selection of academic topics in addition to opportunities in the performing arts, sports, and music. Our students' education is enriched by extracurricular activities and field trips. Every student is encouraged to provide their best effort in all areas of activity. While acknowledging that achievement will manifest itself differently for many students and be acknowledged at every level, high standards are expected. The school actively welcomes students of all religions while maintaining a Christian culture, which is expressed in our regular assemblies. Students are taught to respect one another and to recognise that others will have divergent views or thoughts against this backdrop. They are also taught that adults should be treated with respect and that they should be able to demand that respect in return. At Rookwood our school motto is 'Sapere Aude' and can be translated as 'dare to know' or 'have courage to understand' and it certainly represents what we stand for. We encourage our students to learn new things, gain new abilities, and delve deeper into existing concepts. We want children to become aware of and comprehend both themselves and those around them. to understand that life has its highs and lows and that by understanding who they are, they can learn to build on those experiences and grow as our country's future citizens. Through our curriculum, our care and our broader provision our pupils leave our school for further study, and eventually employment, well-equipped and ready to face the challenges ahead of them.
