The Rookeries J, I & N School was constructed in 1961 and is located in a semi-rural area south-east of Pontefract, next to the lovely Carleton Green.
There are now about 260 students in the school, ranging in age from 4 to 11, which makes for a vibrant learning atmosphere where students of all ages are encouraged to play with one another, share their work with one another, and always be considerate of one another's feelings.
The primary school is located in a contemporary structure that has recently benefited from extensive renovations to produce bright, attractive classrooms that offer a stimulating environment for learning.
The Wakefield Pupil Placement Planning Department chose in 2018 to increase The Rookeries to a one and a half form entry.
The school added on last year to make two roomy classrooms and a dance/music studio.
The Wakefield Local Authority Primary Resource for deaf and hearing-impaired students is housed within the school, which is something the school is proud of and happy about.
