At our school, the foundation of every area of school life is the gospel.
Our choice of mission statement was influenced by the writing and teachings of Saint John Henry Newman, a proponent of individualised learning, and Saint Philip Neri, who held that "the servant of God ought always to be in good spirits" and that "cheerfulness strengthens the heart and makes us persevere in a good life."
Based on the living heritage of the Church and continuously informing ourselves with the most recent findings in educational research, we are dedicated to offering a secure, supportive, and joyful immersion learning environment.
Through an innovative curriculum that is personalised to meet the requirements of everyone, our school educates kids to meet the opportunities and challenges of life in modern Britain and within a rapidly changing technological and globalised world.
All members of our school community—students, staff, governors, parents and carers, outside organisations, and the local and larger community—are involved in learning.
We provide a dynamic and engaging curriculum and educational experience to ensure that all students, regardless of where they begin when they enrol in our school, make at least good progress.
We want to encourage our kids to develop their God-given abilities and to become more responsible for both themselves and others.
Everyone has a right to equal access to opportunities, freedom to work and learn, and freedom from unfair discrimination and prejudice, according to our beliefs.
By actively fostering equality and social inclusion without distinction of culture, religion, language, ethnic background, or race, our methods encourage the right of all students to participate in school life.
By "ensuring children' SMSC [spiritual, moral, social and cultural] development," "fulfilling standards for group worship," and "creating a strong school ethos," it is stated that schools can show they are actively promoting essential British values.
The Oratory continues to ensure students' SMSC development, builds on our strong Catholic ethos, and gathers as a School community for Catholic liturgy, all of which show that it is actively promoting British values.
Our ethos and curriculum explicitly include democratic ideas.
The Head Teacher chooses the Oratory Pupil Mission Team after consulting with the Strategic Leadership Team.
The Oratory is a tranquil and secure place to be since laws and norms are continuously emphasised in the classroom, during school assemblies, and throughout the curriculum.
Students are aware of our system of rewards and penalties.
Through assemblies and classroom discussions, as well as through using Christ as an example when dealing with unacceptable behaviour, we teach our students how to discriminate between right and evil.
These lessons are reinforced through visits by the West Midlands Police, the Fire Service, neighbourhood groups, and theatre in education.
Through our Christian ethos, the way we treat one another, and the way we teach through REAL Projects, we actively assist and encourage our students in developing their independence, resilience, inquiry skills, emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
By connecting rights with duties and establishing a fair and consistent Behaviour and Expectations Policy, our curriculum helps students take responsibility for their learning and behaviour as well as knowing, understanding, and exercising their rights.
Through our Religious Education programme and REAL Projects, they are taught attention and respect for others.
The Gospel principles of prayer, joy, love, truth, faith, peace, justice, mission, and hope form the foundation of our school's ethos.
Meetings, Catholic communal worship, and Caritas Christi Liturgy Roadshows all work to instil respect for others, the value of politeness, and reverence.
The value of self-respect, open, honest communication with others, and fair play is instilled in students.
Students discover that their actions can positively or negatively impact both their own rights and those of others.
Each half-term, students who consistently demonstrate the Gospel Values and Oratory learning behaviours are recognised in a school assembly with a Head Teacher's Certificate and Lapel Pin.
The word "tolerance" is not used in the Oratory.
The students are reminded of their place in a multicultural society as members of a Catholic worshipping community.
This is accomplished through the school's spiritual life and our curriculum for religious education.
The REAL project for the term is cross-referenced with the RE curriculum, which explicitly teaches students about various global faiths and involves trips to places of worship in each year group.
In our school community, people of all faiths and religions are always welcome.
An annual Multi Faith Week enables more in-depth contemplation of other religions, ideologies, and cultures.
This, in our opinion, is essential to the Catholic ethos.
We collaborate as a school to establish and maintain this ethos.
A strong set of principles are promoted and shaped by the Catholic culture of our school.
