From the Nelson Academy
Nelson Academy is a large non-denominational school and nursery sponsored by the Eastern Multi-Academy Trust, providing education for over 350 children aged 3 to 11 in Downham Market, Downham West, Salters Lode, Barroway Drove and Nordelph. Many parents from neighbouring communities also decide to enrol their kids at Nelson Academy. The mission of Eastern Multi-Academy Trust is to improve local communities via education. Nelson Academy takes great pride in being the first Primary in the Trust and in advancing our own vision of increasing standards, chances for success, and aspirations through "Achieving through Learning." The school, formerly known as Clackclose Community Primary School, has been educating students in some capacity for close to 130 years. On January 1, 2014, the school became an academy. The school bears Lord Nelson's name since legend has it that he went to his first school in Downham Market. The school is now located on a single location with purpose-built instructional settings and modern amenities as a result of a significant capital development initiative. The facilities are used by the neighbourhood on the weekends and in the evenings. Ballet courses, karate, judo, yoga, and summer camp programmes are among the available activities. We also host a breakfast club and offer a variety of after-school groups. By funding educational initiatives and planning social and fundraising activities, the Friends of the Academy assist the school. The goal of Nelson Academy is to establish a world-class learning environment where everyone is appreciated.
