SEN
From the School
The construction projects that took up the majority of 2018 and 2019 are now finished.
We are thrilled that students in Years 4, 5, and 6 are currently receiving instruction in our brand-new, two-story I Building.
Along with the construction of a third Reception class at the front of the school, the current Reception classrooms have also undergone significant renovations.
Modern, purpose-built facilities are now available for the kids.
The I Building is the name of the new building for grades 4, 5, and 6 in honour of the creative work being done by those year groups.
In these year groups, a "Independent Learning" model—hence the name I Building—has been used.
This was discovered as a result of an 18-month international collaboration with Swedish schools, where this type of instruction has been widely used for many years.
English and math are still taught the conventional way, and this process is only used for the Foundation Subjects.
The activities the students must perform over a four-week period are explained to them, and they are then given the option to sign up for the sessions they believe they will require extra assistance from in order to complete those tasks effectively.
Hillcrest covers every area of the Primary National Curriculum; we have just chosen to look beyond the conventional methods of teaching these subjects to ones that give the children a chance to make informed choices about their own learning.
Additionally, the 18-month international initiative culminated with 18 of our Year 6 students spending a week learning in a Swedish school in Vasteras.
