From the King's Oak School
A secondary school for students with SEMH needs is called King's Oak School. The school has undergone a radical change since federating with Waterside in July 2018, following Waterside's leadership supporting the school since January 2018. The two schools' federation is not an academy. Both schools are still part of the same local authority, however the governing board and executive headteacher have been combined. King's Oak School offers tailor made pathways for pupils who may have found mainstream education difficult - but this does not mean that they would not have the opportunity to return, either to a mainstream secondary school or further education. At Key Stage 3, which for King's Oak School is Years 7 and 8, the pupils receive a tailored curriculum, mainly based in one 'home room' with the same teacher and TA. The school's math, science, art, music, and catering specialists provide them with specialised advice. Academic - if a pupil shows a drive for academic study and is looking to go onto further education, they have the option of taking a variety of exams in subjects offered both at King's Oak and at our partners sites. We strive to ensure that our pupils have every opportunity to succeed and we work tirelessly with their families, the industry providers and other services to ensure that they will. Please click/tap here to view the work that Waterside has completed. You are more than welcome to talk to Meic (Executive Head) or Jill (Head of School) about current and future plans for King's Oak.
