From the Harris Academy Greenwich
Run for and by students starting in year 8, the Harris Academy Greenwich STEM club is a highly successful STEM club. We aim to inspire pupils in the STEM disciplines through long term project work with a particular endgame in mind; participation at the highest levels in competitions such as the NSEC Young Engineers 'Engineer of the Year', BAE systems prize and the Crest Prize at the The National Big Bang Finals. The Longitude Prize, the ESROC/ESA "Cansats," and other honours including the CREST Awards. Additionally, we have received invitations to display our work at a number of different gatherings, including Big Bang At The Houses of Parliament and a STEMNET show at the Science Museum. We are regular competitors in the 'Big Bang Near Me' fairs, where we have won promotion to the National Big Bang Finals for the last three years (2013, 2014 and 2015) 'The Young Engineers Regional Engineering Ethos Award 2014'. The STEM club is ambitious in that it accepts the challenge of undertaking projects that call for both solid and innovative engineering solutions as well as philosophically challenging work. The motto of STEM clubs, "Others imagine it, we build it," serves as an example of this.
