The Kingston Day Commercial School and the Hinchley Wood Central Council School were two independent schools that were formerly housed on the Claygate Lane property of Hinchley Wood School; the latter was an existing school that was relocated from its original location in Kingston.
There was no primary school in Hinchley Wood until after the war. On March 4, 1940, the Central Council School welcomed 360 students from five different neighbourhood schools in Thames Ditton, Claygate, and Long Ditton.
Although the physical combining of the two schools took accomplished gradually over many years, the Hinchley Wood County Secondary School was created in 1947.
The two structures and the Kingston school's initial commercial subjects were transferred to Hinchley Wood County Secondary.
Around 1200 students between the ages of 12 and 18 were enrolled at the institution in the 1960s.
On the former Surbiton County Grammar School campus in Thames Ditton, which was moved from the current Hollyfield School site, Esher Sixth Form College was founded in 1977.
