The expansive, two-form entrance Gatley Primary School is situated on the outskirts of Stockport in a lovely suburban neighbourhood. There are 491 students enrolled in the school today, ranging in age from 3 to 11. We see ourselves very much as a family school, where education is a partnership between staff, parents /carers and pupils, and where we work together for the good of all our children. Children at Gatley Primary receive a special education that they create themselves. Our students co-create the curriculum based on their personal interests and experiences. This starts with suggestions for themes, developing activities and then moves through to creating their own success criteria for a lesson. According to the staff, everyone's engagement and enthusiasm for the programme depends on this degree of participation. Additionally, kids are given access to an independent learning strategy that allows them to take initiative in the classroom and challenge themselves. Whilst a specific and challenging success criteria underpins everything within the environment, children explore and challenge themselves, accessing a range of key skills.
