Since Waltham Abbey possessed the Manor of Eppingham since before Domesday, residents of Epping Upland would have benefited from the Church's historical monopoly on education.
Since the catechism was taught on the church porch, that location might be regarded as the School's original location for close to a thousand years.
An Anglican day school opened in Epping Green in 1825.
A government paper from 1872 suggested Epping Upland School as a component of a general service for the region.
It appears that the school didn't get a government funding until 1893.
In 1904, the Upland School could accommodate 100 students but only had 75.
Parish records frequently make reference to the School.
The school had 90 students in two groups, 5 to 10 years old and 10 to 14 years old, meeting in two rooms at its original location on the intersection of Carter's Lane and the High Road.
Due to the lengthy delay, the parish clerk was given the order to write to the Essex Education Committee in May 1952 and ask whether a start date for the construction of the new school could be provided.
On 1953, the School relocated to new facilities in Carter's Lane.
Chris Bard served as our previous chair of governors for more than 25 years.
Chris had a lot of fun joking about with the kids about how "young" he was because he was born on leap-year day, February 29, 1952.
In order to become a Church of England priest, he received training at King's College London and St. Augustine's College in Canterbury. He was ordained in 1976.
After relocating to Epping Upland with his family in 1981, he was given the positions of Diocesan Communications Officer, priest at All Saints Church Epping Upland, and Chair of Governors of Epping Upland School.
Chris was named Producer of BBC Essex Religious Programs in 1989. He has since co-hosted a number of shows with his wife Mary.
Chris was appropriately pleased of his 2003 appointment as Honorary Canon at Chelmsford Cathedral.
Chris also served as "Priest in Charge" at the Capel Manor Horticultural College, where he created the "Silver Guilt"-winning "Growing Together in Faith" garden that won first place at the 2007 Chelsea Flower Show.
While visiting Ireland in September 2007 to research gardens for a planning book, Chris passed away unexpectedly.
