At Davyhulme Primary School, we are dedicated to supporting each student in doing their absolute best in everything they undertake.
We continue to work hard to uphold the 2010 Ofsted evaluation that gave our school a "OUTSTANDING" rating, therefore I was overjoyed when we received another "OUTSTANDING" rating during our most recent inspection in June 2013.
We firmly think that each child's growth extends beyond the limited scope of the English, Math, and Science curricula.
There are many outstanding instances of our dedication to a comprehensive and balanced curriculum throughout this website, which has been acknowledged by national award-giving organisations like Sport England, The Arts Council, Healthy Schools, and Eco Schools.
Every staff member participates in offering an after-school or at lunchtime extracurricular club to our students.
We work hard to include our wonderful school grounds into as many elements of our curriculum as we can in order to strike a balance between the digital and natural worlds.
Our goal is for this website to function as a tool for parents, kids, and instructors to lessen paperwork while fostering better communication.
Before deciding to send your child to Davyhulme Primary School, I would encourage you to carefully read the following statement.
If you are satisfied with and confident in the knowledgeable and effective staff at Davyhulme Primary School, you can stop reading here. However, if you have any concerns or reservations about any part of a mixed-age classroom, please continue reading to learn more about the school's policy.
Trafford The maximum enrollment for our school is set by LA based on the amount of physical space and staffing that is available.
For KS2, there is no such thing as a mixed-year group class because there are two classes of 35 students each.
Although we don't like mixed classes, the teachers are competent and will make every effort to satisfy the requirements of each child in their charge.
All of the mixed-age Year 2 students have recently kept up their "age related progress."
Please be aware that during my tenure as headmaster, there has never been a documented policy on mixed classrooms or, for that matter, on how our school's classes are assembled as a whole.
Our classes are not "set" and are all mixed ability.
There is no evidence to suggest that classes which are 'set' for the year, outperform classes which are mixed ability although we still reserve the right to group children in ability groups from time to time, within classes , across cohorts on a day to day or weekly basis to meet the needs of our children and rise to the challenge of the ever changing national curriculum.
In recent years there has been a growing belief among parents that the mixed Y1/2 class is second best and even a 'remedial ' (parents' description not the school's) class , which has not been helped by the electronic ' school gate ' of social media sites and associated gossip.
This is a view the school will continue to challenge both in our exchanges with parents and in the selection of pupils who are placed in that class.
These pupils are not being penalised in any way that is the perception of misguided parents.
Parents cannot come to our school and ' cherry pick ' the classroom , the classmates nor the class teacher for their child during their time with us.
They cannot say that the 'environment' of the mixed class is suited to any other child but their own.
We reserve the right to employ a variety of teaching strategies and working practices to achieve the best results for all of our children across the school and we cannot be entering into in depth discussion or explanation with parents about what goes on in school on a day to day basis.
There is no getting away from the fact that our classes must be 30 in EYFS and KS1 , nothing can be done about it .
Children will make friends wherever they go , especially in our school, so it is best to make your peace with the situation and work to support your child in the most positive way you can in partnership with school staff.
During your children's time here with us at Davyhulme Primary School they will experience many ups and downs and when they eventually leave us in Year 6 they will barely remember this ' blip ' which parents seemed to be more concerned about than children.
I spend a lot of time listening to Year 6 children, particularly when they are preparing to leave school in the summer term.
