From the Cheney School
I was fortunate to attend a comprehensive school with an inspiring ethos and dedication to the development of every student while growing up in Leamington Spa. I then went on to study math and philosophy at Oxford. I began my professional career as a computer programmer for British Airways before returning to Oxford to conduct research in both computing and medicine. I have worked in a variety of roles at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory at Harwell since 1993. I have created software and databases, conducted solar-terrestrial physics research, managed projects, and, most recently, led assurance activities that support the department's various programmes. I've been a resident of East Oxford since 1991, and in the spring of 2013, when my two sons were in grades 12 and 7, I started serving as a parent governor at Cheney. Prior to stepping down this term to assume the position of Chair of the Cheney Governing Body, I was also a Trustee of CSAT, the academy trust that manages the Cheney and Bayards Hill schools. Although arduous, being a governor is always interesting. The governing body plays a critical role in ensuring that the school is successful in addressing the needs of its students and the larger community by challenging and supporting the school's leadership team. In order to make Cheney renowned as a place where adults and children collaborate so that our young people can move on well-prepared for the opportunities and challenges ahead of them, I am excited to build on what has already been accomplished.
