In February 2014, Lord Derby Academy (LDA) became an academy as a part of the Dean Trust. Since joining the Trust, LDA has grown steadily and is now the preferred school in the neighbourhood. The Dean Trust also includes Park View Academy and Blacklow Brow School, two of the nine nearby feeder primary schools that LDA serves. The past three years have seen a formal oversubscription at the institution. LDA was inspected by Ofsted in January 2017 and inspectors stated that 'the reputation that this is a school that insists on the highest standards of behaviour is deserved' and that 'pupils at this school are a credit to themselves, their parents and the local community'. The lead inspector also commented in his report that 'the morale, dedication and commitment of staff at the school are contagious'.
