From the Battle Abbey School
The Battle of Hastings, fought in 1066 between William the Conqueror and Harold, the Saxon King, gave the charming town of Battle its name.
The outcome of this conflict altered English history.
Following the battle, William the Conqueror constructed the Abbey of St. Martin, around which the town eventually flourished.
The high altar at Battle Abbey, which is thought to have been erected on the spot where Harold was killed, was constructed between 1070 and 1094.
The battlefield and Abbey ruins are now maintained by English Heritage and are highly recommended for visitors.
The Almonry, which was constructed in 1090 and today houses the Town Council and the Battle Museum of Local History, is located at the northern end of the High Street.
The Senior School is located on land that was once a battlefield where William the Conqueror defeated King Harold in 1066, marking the beginning of modern British history.
A monastery developed around the church during the construction of the abbot's residence in the thirteenth century.
Many of the Abbey's structures were destroyed during the Reformation, but the Abbot's residence was acquired by a private individual.
The property was acquired by St. Etheldreda's School of Bexhill in 1922, and they have owned it ever since.

Battle Abbey School Reviews

The school environment has potential for improvement, particularly in terms of staff support and encouraging students to reach their full potential. While the grounds are well-maintained and pleasant, I had concerns about public accessibility, as it can compromise students' sense of security and privacy. Additionally, the facilities are scattered across various locations, which means that students need to be transported to different areas to access swimming, sports, and the art and drama studio.
