From the All Saints Catholic School and Technology College
In September 1989, Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Convent School for Girls, Goresbrook Road, Dagenham, and Bishop Ward Roman Catholic Boys School, Wood Lane, merged to establish All Saints Catholic School.
As the first institution in the Borough to get Specialised College accreditation, All Saints is a specialist Technology College.
From 1989 to 2006, Mr. Des Smith served as the first Head of All Saints and the final Head of Bishop Ward. From 2006 to 2016, Mr. Kevin Wilson served as the head; starting in September 2016, Ms. Clare Cantle is the current head.
The Diocese of Brentwood will commemorate its 100th anniversary in 2017.
Only the Diocese of Brentwood, which was split from the Archdiocese of Westminster in 1917, was initially a part of that archdiocese.
Pope Benedict XV named Monsignor Bernard Ward as Apostolic Administrator of the new Diocese of Essex and Titular Bishop of Lydda on March 22, 1917 (A Titular Bishop in various churches is a bishop who is not in charge of a diocese.
On April 10, 1917, Cardinal Bourne ordained Bishop Ward in Westminster Cathedral.
Bishop Ward was not only a renowned educator but also his generation's leading authority on the history of English Catholicism. He was also somewhat of a train enthusiast.
Because Brentwood's station was the first on the London side of Shenfield junction and provided access to the Colchester and Southend lines, it was chosen as the location of the new bishop.
On July 22, 1917, the Diocese of Brentwood was formally established, with Bishop Ward serving as its inaugural bishop.
