From the Woodlands School
The students at Woodlands School range in age from 2 to 19, and they require the support of a specialised curriculum in order to realise their full potential.
For our students, education should be about preparing them for life.
All students place a high premium on communication and literacy in addition to a broad and balanced curriculum that includes learning to be independent, participating in the community, and learning about the world we live in.
We place a great premium on staff and parent training, and we take pride in being current on trends in education for students with complex learning needs.
We receive regular assistance from Surrey's Physical and Sensory Support services, with professional instructors providing advice for students with visual and auditory impairments and those who need specialised tools to advance their use of alternative communication.
which we: "firmly think that effective communication is essential for the advancement of all aspects of students' progress. To accomplish this, you have made sure that every student has access to a reliable communication system ".
We are a "communication accessible school" where all students are given the best opportunity to learn to communicate independently using a range of communication systems appropriate for each student's needs. We believe that communication is the key to independence, learning, and developing relationships for all of our children.
All students participate in Aided Language Stimulation throughout the institution, where staff members converse with students utilising alternate communication methods (symbol books, high tech devices etc).
Our staff members regularly conduct and participate in training on alternative communication techniques, and we actively participate in international research on communication development.
If you're interested in learning more about us, schedule a visit with the school office.
