Ashlyn Despite the fact that she resides in the Philippines, approximately 2,000 miles away, Ashlyn is an integral part of our school community.
Through the nonprofit organisation Compassion UK, we as a school collectively sponsor her education and well-being.
Every class alternates hosting a fundraising event to cover the expense of sponsorship.
Each class has taken turns participating in fund-raising efforts to support her education.
To date, we have celebrated her birthday with a mufti day, a baking sale, and an unwanted present sale.
Greig from 52 Life, a nonprofit organisation that seeks to enhance the lives of one person worldwide every week of the year, came to visit us on Monday, April 29.
They conduct kindness seminars at several schools each week in an effort to help the kids understand how their daily decisions can have a significant impact on both the world and the lives of others.
Mary, 5, is from Cheshire and suffers from an extremely uncommon disease.
Greig took the goods and this week gave them to Mary and her family, who were in shock.
We came up with the idea of giving her and her family a family ticket for a day to the nearby Chester Zoo.
After consulting with the school council, we decided to have an Octonauts (blue) themed mufti to generate money to help her create wonderful memories with her family. This was one of her favourite shows.
We raised a remarkable $169, which covered Mary and her family's admission to the zoo as well as extras like souvenirs and photos with the animals.
The Prayer Wall is a frequently used area of our school.
Prayer Rooms There is a prayer area in each classroom.
They examine the Christian Value of the Half Term and are consequently interactive in nature.
2019 Lent: Count Your Blessings We observe the church calendar at West Pennard, and during Lent we did so by counting our blessings every day by reflecting on things like the person or colour we were grateful for.
Advent In the Autumn Term, we held our first Prayer Space afternoons.
Each child had the chance to try their hand at a range of activities.
The name of a loved one they wouldn't be able to celebrate Christmas with this year might be written on a star by the kids.
If they wished, they could have a conversation with God about themselves.
Families like ours are currently housed in cardboard boxes all over the world.
Many thanks Play-doh We have many reasons to be thankful for Christmas.
One of the card stars was given to the kids to wound some wool around.
Scrape Art Christmas serves as a reminder that Jesus is the world's light.
Angels Shepherds received wonderful news from angels that altered the course of history.
We held lunchtime activities leading up to Christmas when the kids created angels to hang on the doors of everyone in our neighbourhood.
When asked where they find peace and what makes them peaceful, children were invited to reflect.
Christians hold that Jesus died so that we can receive forgiveness for the wrongdoings we have committed.
The youngsters were prompted to consider others they had treated unfairly.
After that, they sat and munched on a tart treat as they considered how to improve the situation.
They pondered whether they should apologise to the person they injured when they next cross paths.
People put palm leaves across the rocky route for Jesus to cross on the first Palm Sunday.
When asked who is important to them, children were asked.
On a palm leaf, they were requested to write their names.
But on the Sunday, three days later, Hope experienced a new birth.
It's good to remember on those days when life seems hard that there is always hope Jesus has made sure of that, HE IS ALIVE and that changes everything!
The youngsters were urged to reflect on their actions.
Every fortnight our School Council visits the local care home, the Cyder Barn, to play games and talk to the residents.
Peer coaching At West Pennard we are proud that some of our Year 6 children have now trained to be Peer Mentors.
Their role is To be a role model around the school.
In RE, Year 1 were so horrified by the way people had polluted the beautiful world we live in that Carymoor Schools Against Waste came to help us learn how to take better care of our planet.
Year 6 at Christmas Unwrapped and Easter Unscrambled run by Street Baptist Church learning the true meanings of these important Christian Festivals in a fun, interactive way.
To mark Easter, all the children across the school made a 'Bunny Box' to be given to members of our local community.
Also at Easter, the children were challenged to make an Easter hat and took part in an Easter hat parade.
As at Christmas, we were treated to a lovely celebratory Easter lunch by our excellent cooks, Mandy and Sue.
We wore our hats to lunch also.
We marked Mother's Day by having a tea and cake afternoon in the hall.
Every child has designed a fish for our display in the reception area.
On Monday we shared in a special Armistice Day Collective Worship when we stood to remember those who had died in the war and those who still live with the scars of war.
So this week, instead of having our usual Prayer Wall, we have written poppy prayers, saying thank you and praying for peace.
