The basic British principles of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect for people of all religions and beliefs must be promoted in all schools, according to the DfE, which has lately reaffirmed the need for doing so.
Our approach to creating a feeling of community is something we take great pride in at Swiss Gardens, and the kids respect and uphold a set of consistent ideals.
The kids establish their own class regulations each year.
There are numerous ways for kids to have their voices heard.
Laws are continually emphasised throughout the regular school day, as well as when dealing with behaviour and during school assemblies, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country.
Students are instructed on the importance of laws, their justifications, how they regulate and safeguard us, the duties associated with this, and the repercussions of breaking the law.
Our behaviour guidelines clearly define the limitations, benefits, and penalties.
Children are aware of how to succeed and what happens if they "break" the rules at school.
With the knowledge that they are in a secure and encouraging atmosphere at school, students are actively encouraged to make decisions.
Students are encouraged to be aware of, comprehend, and exercise their rights and liberties, as well as given instructions on how to do so safely, for instance through our E-Safety and PSHE lectures.
Students have the option to choose how to learn, how to document their progress, and how to participate in the many groups and programmes we offer outside of the classroom.
Mutual respect is at the core of our principles because it is at the core of all we do as a school.
Children come to understand how their actions affect both their own rights and those of others.
Everyone in the school community is respectful of one another.
To improve instruction in classes and throughout the school, people of all faiths are urged to share their knowledge.
We show the students how to participate in democratic processes like school council and house captain elections to influence decisions.
We encourage students to participate in decision-making processes through School Council and make sure they are heard in the classroom.
We make sure that school policies and expectations are transparent and equitable so that kids can learn about the rule of law.
By creating a class charter that makes reference to the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child, we assist students in recognising right from wrong.
We invite the NSPCC to speak on children's rights in Years 5 and 6 to further our goal of educating students on the importance of living in a society where the rule of law protects people.
Through regular opportunities for peer and self assessment, class assemblies, and opportunity to share their learning with parents in display, we help students improve their self-knowledge, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
Through student engagement, we promote free speech while protecting vulnerable students and encouraging the evaluation of the facts.
By implementing a strong anti-bullying culture and adhering to a curriculum that is highly inclusive, we combat stereotypes.
By assisting students in developing a knowledge of and respect for their own and other cultures and ways of life, we encourage appreciation for individual differences.
We at Swiss Gardens are proud to be a school at the centre of the neighbourhood, and we think the best way to show this is to invite other artists and creatives to collaborate with us. In turn, this has a positive impact on how the neighbourhood perceives us and how we are received by neighbourhood businesses and community organisations.
