The current school building is a single-story structure that was built in 1978. The need to expand the structures resulted from a rise in student enrollment, and a new hall, administrative building, and classrooms were inaugurated in the spring of 2000. Seven classroom bases, a resource room, and a group room with a kitchenette are now present in the school. The children's lunches are made in the school's on-site full kitchen. In September 2009 Tiddlywinks, the village pre-school group, moved onto the school site and have become an integral part of the school; making transition from Tiddlywinks to Reception seamless. A sizable playground, grassy play areas, and a field are all outside. The fact that the school has a private outdoor pool is a blessing. Our Explorers Area contains a pond, a fire pit, and a lot of fascinating things to explore because we have been expanding our outdoor learning programme in recent years. When Thomas Hitche, a curate, was granted permission to serve as both a curate and a schoolmaster in 1579, early records indicate that Stretham had a school. A school was held in the chapel of St. James church in the middle of the 18th century. With donations from charitable organisations and a grant from the Diocesan Board, the village school in the High Street was established in 1872. The Church School was leased to the Diocesan Board in 1894 to take 256 pupils and another separate school for the infants was built a little distance down the High Street. Until a secondary school was built in Witchford in 1948, the older kids were sent to the Cromwell School in Chatteris.
