Religious education (RE) makes these ideals explicit, while our expectations, behaviour guidelines, and nurturing philosophy make them implicit.
Through the development and delivery of a comprehensive and well-balanced curriculum, we also teach British values.
Through daily communal worship, processes and institutions for the entire school, such as behaviour awards, faith awards, charitable fundraising activities, student-led initiatives, and electing and managing a successful School Council, the school actively promotes British values.
At our school, we place a high priority on democracy.
Through our School Council, students have the opportunity to have their opinions heard.
Children are taught to think independently starting in EYFS, and self-worth and self-belief are highly appreciated.
To make sure that this connection is made and understood, children are asked to specify which aspect of the school's behaviour standards code they have violated.
Students are instructed on the importance of laws, their justifications, how they regulate and safeguard us, the duties associated with this, and the repercussions of breaking the law.
Within the context of learning from our mistakes, connections with biblical messages and God's rules of forgiveness are also appreciated at St. Joseph's.
We created a Behaviour and a Faith award system, which is constantly used throughout the school, to encourage and reward good behaviour, attitude, and work.
We are dedicated to honouring the work of kids.
Informally, during group projects, individually, in front of the entire class, and throughout the school, we try to compliment the kids.
The celebration assemblies are the most important events on the academic calendar.
Children receive rewards for adhering to the school's mission statement and behaviour guidelines in general as well as for behaviour, success outside of school, and academic accomplishment.
At our school, students are actively encouraged to make decisions because they know they are doing it in a secure and encouraging environment.
We set limits for our students to make decisions securely as a school by offering a secure setting and a carefully thought-out curriculum.
Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our e-Safety teaching.
Students have the ability to select their own options, such as joining extracurricular clubs.
Additionally, they must respect the right to privacy of individuals in their class and at school.
Children are expected, in line with the gospel values we uphold, to embrace disability and differences and recognise the need for individual liberty, at a level appropriate to their abilities.
This is achieved through enhancing pupils' understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity in our local community.
Collective Worship and discussions involving prejudices and prejudice-based bullying have been followed and supported by learning in RE and PSHE.
Our curriculum includes yearly opportunities for us to learn about various cultures.
We embrace historic social role models through Black History month and through our RE curriculum and we encourage children to learn about the diverse world we live in through exploration of our communities, at parish and social level, eg.
The Olympics and the World Cup are two current events that are good teaching tools for a variety of subjects.
