The parishes of English Martyrs in Alvaston and St. Ralph Sherwin in Chellaston are served by the Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic school known as St. John Fisher School. The Gospel principles upon which St. John Fisher was built have not changed, despite the fact that it started out as two classrooms at the Convent of Mercy in January 1953. The Catholic Faith continues to be essential to St. John Fisher School's existence. Our overarching goal is to get a thorough understanding of Catholic Church doctrine and morals as well as a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We share the Church's conviction that: Parents must be recognised as the primary instructors of their children. This is a key component of the strong Catholic ethos on which our school is established. In order to do this, we work to create positive, open, and cooperative relationships between the home and the school, encouraging parents and carers to take an active role in their children's education. Our goal is to show the kids how to incorporate God into their daily lives through our interactions with them, their parents, and each other so that their faith is more than just something they study but a way of life they live. Our goal is to provide a learning atmosphere that is simultaneously joyful, kind, and safe while also pushing kids outside of their comfort zones to pursue excellence and make the most of the special gifts that God has given them. The single-aged courses at St. John Fisher School span three educational levels. The Foundation Stage includes the Reception year. Key Stage 1 comprises Years 1 and 2. Key Stage 2 consists of Years 3, 4, and 6. There are about 228 kids enrolled in the institution.
