St. Andrew's school was founded by a board of local dignitaries under the direction of the Church of England and was once known as the Boothstown Church School.
August 1874 saw the opening of the old structure as a school.
As a result of the 1870 Education Act, the school was the first of several new ones in the Boothstown district to get funding.
The old school log books make several references to the expenses associated with maintaining the school.
The school received 7s and 2d in 1886 to pay its annual expenses.
Robert Turner served as the headteacher from 1896 to 1921.
While many students left school before turning 14, particularly during harvest, several did transfer to secondary schools in Eccles and Walkden.
All of the older students (those over 11) were moved to Walkden Senior (high) School in 1933, converting Boothstown Church School to a nursery and junior (primary) school.
Many reforms were brought forth by the 1944 Education Act.
Grammar and secondary modern schools were widely created, and the curriculum was expanded.
The previous school at Boothstown housed more than 200 students.
More than 290 students were enrolled by the 1970s, and the outdated structures were replaced.
As the school's centennial drew near, education was entering the computer era.
With the completion of two further construction phases and the construction of the nursery in the following ten years, Boothstown CE Primary School underwent numerous alterations.
The school adopted our church's name and changed its name to St. Andrew's in 1986.
Despite intentions to provide new premises during the 1970's and 80's there has never been a time when the old buildings haven't been in use. to the family of St. Andrew's.
The old school bell sounded each morning at 8.30am to mark the beginning of the school day, in a village smaller than today's, the tones were heard all over Boothstown.
