Running a school involves more than most people realise. A strong set of policies serves as the foundation of a good school. A good school's ethos and vision are its core components. Governors are essential to both. We are lucky to have a dynamic board of governors at St. Andrew's who are committed to establishing the best standards for our school. We have one full governing body meeting per term. Our two main subcommittees meet at least once a term as well. Aspects including student achievement, special educational needs, equalities, and anti-bullying are monitored by the teaching and learning subcommittees (TLIS). Important decisions on staffing, facilities, equipment, and how the school allocates its resources to pedagogical goals are made by the finance subcommittee (FPP). Other working groups take into account different facets of school life, such as communication and ethos. Staff members are chosen by the governors of St. Andrew's. Through a programme of governor visits, we actively supervise the daily operations of the school. We make significant judgements regarding how the school is administered while also challenging and assisting it. We bring a diverse range of perspectives from the local community (co-opted governors), the diocese (foundation governors), the staff (staff governors) and the local authority (LA governors). The function of governor is challenging but incredibly rewarding at a time when the educational landscape is changing quickly and the duties put on governing bodies are growing. If you're interested in becoming a governor at St Andrew's you can drop a note into the school office or e-mail us at any time on the following email address: [email protected].
