From the Sandfield Primary School
A tiny town called Guildford was founded by Saxon settlers soon after Roman rule was abolished in Britain. From 978 until about halfway through William the Conqueror's reign, the town housed the Royal Mint. The Norman-style Guildford Castle overlooks the Pilgrims' Way's route over a pass in the hills and once gazed over the Wey's historic ford. Families travel from near and far to attend Sandfield, which is located in the centre of Guildford. Originally a boys school, the school was erected in 1901 and connected to the York Road Nursery by a bridge. When students aged 11 transferred to Stoke C of E Secondary Modern in Markenfield Road, now homes and apartments, the school then became Sandfield Infant School and Sandfield Girls School. The school is located in a stunning Victorian structure that has been updated to meet the needs of students and teachers in the twenty-first century. Our grounds, which over the years have garnered numerous honours, are fully utilised to give the kids a wide range of play and learning possibilities. According to an Ofsted evaluation from June 2017, "Sandfield is an academy school graded Good with Outstanding for Personal development, behaviour, and welfare."
