From the Ripon Grammar School
Ripon Grammar School belongs to a tiny, exclusive group of coed state residential and day institutions.
It is special as a setting for learning and as a group of people.
The education of young people to become excellent members of the community, which we have served since the seventh century and after our re-founding in 1555, is at the heart of our mission.
Ripon Grammar School has a strong feeling of place because it is located in large, gorgeous grounds in the middle of the mediaeval city of Ripon.
People frequently believe we are a private institution.
Our education is free, in contrast to private schools, with boarding often costing a third of independent school tuition.
Rated outstanding by Ofsted for both boarding and education, academic results and 'value added' progress are exceptionally strong at both A-level and GCSE, a testimony to both the hard work of students and the high calibre of teaching.
