Our students are aware that, like Olympic competitors, they can win Gold in a variety of ways by simply giving it their all, persevering, learning from mistakes, being kind, and taking care of one another.
These behaviours are referred recognised as being typical of a Gold Medal Learner.
We have decided on a two-year cycle of monthly values that relate to our humanitarian activities and fundraising, as well as termly events for kindergarten through grade six, with the support of the school community.
Our Friday achievement assembly honours class role models who have exemplified the value.
A certificate and a unique Gold Medal Learner's baton are given to these students, which they keep at home for a week.
When making decisions about our attitudes and behaviours, our students are taught to think about what the values mean to them and are encouraged to actively engage with them.
A values-based strategy promotes aspirational and reflective traits and behaviours.
We have built a better learning environment and a healthy school culture through our ideals, enabling students to achieve better academic performance.
Our new Learners' Values logo and the hallway pictures, for example, serve as reflections of the variety of values that our students stand for in our school environment.
The main message is that we want our students to be resilient and self-aware contributors to their school and the larger community.
We take great satisfaction in offering a comprehensive curriculum at Prince of Wales Primary School that helps students advance in their Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) development.
Education that is values-based helps students grow.
The British Values of the Rule of Law, Democracy, Tolerance for Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs, Individual Liberty, and Mutual Respect are understood and respected by the entire school community.
Where British Values are taught and demonstrated throughout the school is highlighted in the table below.
How can one tell that Prince of Wales Primary School upholds British values?
Children are encouraged to reflect on a PSHE theme, such as relationships, wellbeing, or living in a global society, in their PSHE and Values Journals.
The 22 Values and the three Charities PoW could support were decided by a referendum of the school staff.
Students should have the opportunity to experience democracy.
Each term, the kids voted on "how" to raise money for charity.
Students offer their views in the PSHE Journal and Class Values.
The DfE have recently reinforced the need "to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.".
In the Prevent Strategy from 2011 and again in 2014, the government outlined the notion of British values.
These ideals are routinely reemphasized at Prince of Wales in the following ways.
There are numerous ways for kids to have their voices heard.
The importance of Laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced at Prince of Wales.
The school's regulations are taught to students beginning at a young age.
These are our guiding principles.
They are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken.
With the knowledge that they are in a secure and encouraging atmosphere, Prince of Wales students are actively encouraged to make decisions.
As a school we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safely, through provision of a safe environment and empowering education.
Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons.
Whether it be through choice of learning challenge, of how they record, of participation in our numerous extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices and to understand and accept their consequences.
Our school ethos and behaviour policy has revolved around core values such as 'Respect', and pupils have been part of discussions and assemblies related to what this means and how it is shown.
Enquiries based lessons, critical thinking and debates help to develop children's understanding of others around them.
The school ethos and aims promote respect for others and this is reiterated through our classroom and Golden Rules, as well as our behaviour policy.
Prince of Wales is a diverse and multicultural school.
Religious Education and PSHE curriculum reinforce messages of tolerance and respect for others.
The role of SMSC, PSHE and the Global Dimensions at Prince of Wales.
YOUNGSTERS from a primary school in Enfield Lock were chosen to represent children across the borough to mark Commonwealth Day.
The pupils from Prince of Wales school, in Salisbury Road, joined Enfield mayor Ali Bakir, Enfield Council leader Doug Taylor and the cabinet member for children Ayfer Orhan to hoist the Commonwealth Flag above the Civic Centre, in Silver Street, Enfield.
The 22 children raised one of 730 flags flown throughout the day on Monday.
For the first time in maritime history, the Commonwealth Flag was also raised on board all ships belonging to the fleets of the world's leading cruise lines, P&O and Cunard.
