The school's students are drawn from a variety of first- and primary-level institutions throughout Newcastle and Northumberland.
PCMS changed its status to an academy in September 2017 and will become Ponteland Community Primary School in September 2020.
Ponteland Middle School was designated as a Teaching School in September 2014.
Together with a number of other schools, including Berwick Middle School, Holy Trinity First School, Berwick, and the Royal Grammar School, PCMS established The Ponteland Partnership Teaching Alliance.
A teaching school alliance's goal is to raise standards through school-to-school assistance, opportunities for teacher training, ongoing professional development, involvement in research and development, and making sure that the most gifted school leaders are prepared to become effective headteachers.
Staff members here work to encourage each child's intellectual, physical, aesthetic, spiritual, emotional, moral, and social growth. They also assist each child in learning how to learn, so they can enjoy the process and feel a sense of accomplishment. This allows each child to reach his or her full potential by acquiring the necessary abilities, concepts, and knowledge. They also help each child develop their capacity for reason, so they can ask questions and come up with solutions.
Classes are assigned to teachers and teaching assistants according to subjects and curriculum areas.
Outstanding is the rating for the teaching quality.
Teachers construct engaging lessons that inspire students to do well using their extensive topic knowledge, enthusiasm, and love of learning.
Many students engage in a staggering array of extracurricular activities, which significantly boosts their performance, especially in the arts and sports.
The headteacher is supported by a capable group of educators who are committed to delivering enriched teaching and learning and share her vision for the future.
Leaders—Trustees included—have the highest standards for both themselves and the team they oversee.
The community can be proud of the hard effort and dedication displayed by all staff, students, parents, and Trustees as documented in the 2013 Ofsted report.
We are confident that when we transition to primary school in 2020, we will uphold this judgement.
