According to parish records, the Major Street location housed a Catholic school prior to 1850. St. Bedes Senior Boys School relocated to its current location on Bishopton Road in 1963, and the former campus in Newtown was turned into a primary school for the St. Bedes parish. The St. Marys Senior Girls relocated from Major Street to a new school on the same Bishopton Road property a year later, in 1964. Our Lady & St. Bede, an 11–16 mixed comprehensive school, was formed in 1972 by combining the two institutions. Our Lady & St. Bede has been a beloved institution for the past 43 years. In February 2015, it changed its status to an academy and joined the Carmel Education Trust. In Stockton-on-Tees, there is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic school called Our Lady and St. Bede. We take great pleasure in giving visitors to the school a warm welcome.
