Success of the Curriculum: The school's curriculum has been carefully developed to enthuse and motivate pupils in their learning.
Areas Needing Improvement: Pupils in Years 2 to 6 do not have ready access to sufficient resources to support a deepening of understanding in mathematics.
Performance in Maths & Reading: Pupils' outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics have improved and are good.
Support for Falling Behind: Appropriate additional support is provided, either in class or out of lessons, which enables them to make good progress and catch up.
Behaviour and Attitudes: Pupils enjoy the tasks teachers set, have positive attitudes to learning and behave well.
Support for SEND Pupils: Disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs or disability receive effective support. As a result, they make good progress.
Managing Bullying and Pupil Safety: Pupils feel very safe in school. They show good understanding of the different forms bullying can take and are confident it will be dealt with well by the adults.
Promotion of Welfare and Safety: The calm, caring atmosphere and the way in which staff promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a strength of the school.
Parent Feedback: Most parents are aware of the school's improvements and understand leaders' priorities. They are positive about the way in which the school has improved since the previous inspection.
Parental Involvement: The leadership team works hard to involve parents with weekly 'share sessions' that parents can attend after school.
Teacher Engagement: Teachers and teaching assistants know the pupils well. There are good, trusting relationships, and consequently pupils are confident.
Impact on Student Progress: Decisive action taken by the headteacher to eliminate weak teaching and raise standards has resulted in sustained improvement.
Assessment of Teaching Quality: The quality of teaching has improved since the previous inspection. Teachers provide effective training and support to improve quality.
Teaching Staff Challenges: In a very small number of lessons, the classes were not as expertly managed, resulting in pupils finding it difficult to maintain concentration.

Welcome to the webpage for Myland Community Primary School! You are very welcome, whether you are a current student or parent, had a prior connection with our school, or are just browsing. With 336 students, we are a dynamic, welcoming, and successful community school located in North Colchester. Every student will receive the best instruction possible while learning in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere, which is our goal. Twelve courses make up our school, which has a qualified staff that is highly familiar with each student. Despite our size, we still have a "family" atmosphere, and we gain from excellent parent-school relationships. Our school was last inspected in April 2016 - Ofsted graded our school as GOOD in every area and our Foundation Stage (Reception classes) as OUTSTANDING. Our school is also proud to be a national English Hub, designated by the Department for Education. We are recognised for our highly effective practice in the teaching of Early Reading and Phonics and we regularly host visitors from other schools, as well as supporting teachers from across the East of England in their own schools. You're more than welcome to get in touch with me in person; I'd be happy to show you around our school. Whilst our website gives you a good idea of the opportunities we offer it does not replace a personal visit, where you will be warmly welcomed and able to see for yourself the high quality education that we offer.
