At Melbourne Junior School, we work hard to give each of our students a top-notch education.
The school received a satisfactory rating from Ofsted during its most recent inspection in June 2015.
Our Key Stage 2 outcomes are superior to both the regional and statewide averages.
While we encourage academic excellence in our students, we also work to instil a passion of learning so that they are well-prepared for life after secondary school.
Our table tennis team is the 2017–2018 winner of the Derbyshire Team of the Year Award and the School Sports Championship Team of the Year Award.
The local junior sportswoman of the year and Derbyshire junior sportswoman of the year are both a sixth-grade student.
Additionally, we are very dedicated to the arts.
We are steadfast in our dedication to involving our students in school life, and we have a vibrant School Council that works to collect money, communicate with the neighbourhood, and support us in listening to our students.
Melbourne Junior School maintains strong ties with the neighbourhood.
We take part in the Melbourne Festival and Carnival.
The curriculum is supported by the involvement of the kids in a range of visits.
Derby Arena hosted the pantomime for the entire school.
Last year, local author Andy Cope visited our school.
There is a long history of music at the school.
All of the students in Year 4 are enrolled in the Wider Opportunities programme, where they are all learning to play a brass instrument.
Through a range of fun events for our kids, such picnics and discos, our Parent Teacher Association helps raise money for the school in a significant way.
Cricket nets, a new sound system, and a new library system were all purchases made for the school last year.
