The quality of education has been transformed since the last inspection through effective leadership and increased consistency in teaching.

The school receives excellent support from the Two Counties Trust and benefits from skilled and knowledgeable governors.

The quality of teaching is good, with almost all teaching delivered by permanent staff. The deputy headteacher has driven improvements to teaching.

Pupils achieve well, including disadvantaged pupils, and most make progress in line with other pupils nationally. Progress in English and mathematics is particularly strong.

The most able pupils are making increasingly good progress and effective strategies are in place to ensure they receive sufficiently challenging work.

The sixth form is well led and students achieve well in their A levels and vocational qualifications.

The breadth and balance of the curriculum have improved, although aspects of pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding and preparation for life in modern Britain are underdeveloped.

Safeguarding arrangements are very effective, with pupils well cared for including those at risk of harm.

The school needs to improve aspects of spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding and develop strategies for building students' wider skills.

Strategies for building students' wider skills are not fully developed.
