Furthermore, one component of Ofsted's inspection process is how successfully a school promotes these principles.
At Mablins Lane Primary, this is not a new concept even though its importance for schools is growing in 2014–15.
In many of the things we undertake, including school assemblies, religious education classes, and Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) sessions, we actively promote British values.
Here are just a few illustrations of the ways we support British ideals.
As a school, Mablins Lane values and honours the various heritages of each student.
In addition, we cherish and honour being a citizen of the United Kingdom.
The School Council, which is made up of two delegates from each class, meets frequently to talk about topics brought up by the various classes.
All students contribute to the creation of the class charter, which outlines the rights connected with it.
Adults constantly pay attention to what students have to say, and they teach them to do the same for one another while supporting everyone's right to an open exchange of ideas and perspectives.
We urge students to take responsibility for not only their education but also for their own growth and learning.
Our students exhibit this daily, which promotes a greater sense of both personal and social responsibility.
Rules and laws, whether they govern our school or our nation, are frequently alluded to and emphasised, for example during assemblies and while considering behavioural options.
In our e-safety and SEAL lessons, for example, we urge our students to recognise, appreciate, and exercise their rights and personal freedoms. We also teach them how to do it safely.
Respect for each other's beliefs and tolerance of individuals of other faiths.
Because Mablins Lane Primary is located in a multicultural region, we are happy to recognise and promote the diversity of our backgrounds and beliefs.
Our goals and ethos are based on mutual respect. One of our three school rules is to foster respect for and understanding of a wide range of religious values, languages, cultural traditions, and other ways of life. Everybody and everything is respected.
Our pupils know and understand that it is expected and imperative that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have, and to everything, whether it is a school resource, a religious belief or whatever.
Children discover that their behaviour choices have an impact on both their own and other people's rights.
Everyone associated with the school should respect one another.
through Religious Education, SEAL and other lessons where we might develop awareness and appreciation of other cultures in English through fiction and in Art by considering culture from other parts of the world, for example.
Sadly, no school can guarantee that there will never be instances which are contrary to this value.
Such events are relatively uncommon at Mablins Lane Primary.
Extremism is something that is obviously not a component of any British or European value.
It is important to remember that whilst the threat from so-called Islamic State has been a focus in the Counter Terrorism and Security Act, the Prevent Duty is clear that extremism of all kinds should be tackled too.
Extremism is not a new topic in education, but schools have a relatively new statutory duty to pay due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.
