The first school in Little Milton was founded as a Sunday School in 1818, but it was abandoned after a short time for an unidentified reason. In 1827, the Methodist church opened a second school in a home in the hamlet. This was moved to a new Methodist church located on the Milton Manor estate in 1831. By this time, there were already 60 people. Three day schools, two for scholars and one for infants, were present in the settlement by 1854. The demand for education for all ages became so great that evening classes were started for the adults of the village to learn to read and write as many of them had little or no schooling prior to the mid 1880s. The current school, which opened its doors in 1871 with about 100 students, was founded as a result of the urgent need for a school facility. In 1893, this was expanded to accommodate a head teacher's home.
