With 190 students enrolled, we are a primary school with a single-form entrance located in the centre of the community of Houghton. We have recently celebrated 60 years of education on this site, but the original school dates much further back.....the school dates back to 1841 where a tiny school was built by the Church of England next to St John's Church. We then developed a deep bond with St. John's Church and the local populace. The devoted staff, governors, PTA, and church members at our school work hard to uphold the highest standards. Successful collaborations between our school community, church, and community are essential to this. At Houghton CE School, our Christian ethos and values guide everything we do. Our school is a school for all children and families regardless of faith, no faith, gender, race or social circumstances - our warm, inclusive atmosphere is evident throughout the school where our Christian values shine out! With an education based on a solid Christian foundation, we truly "study together in a caring Christian environment." We at Houghton CE School think kids should be curious and enthusiastic about learning. We lay the groundwork for the enthusiasm and love of learning that contribute to the growth of lofty goals and the making of enduring memories through our engaging curriculum. From those first tentative steps in Reception class, all the way through to Year 6 where our children stride out as confident young people, we pride ourselves on ensuring our children are happy, capable young people who love learning as much as we love teaching them! . As we add more content, our website will inevitably expand, but it will never be able to fully substitute coming to see us in person. We welcome your visit and keep our door open for you.
