Our basic principles, which can be summed up in three words: humility, perseverance, and self-belief, serve as the foundation for all the work we perform at Hornton.
At Hornton, these three words permeate all we do.
Every staff member, student, parent, and governor at Hornton is aware that we must be modest enough to realise that we are always working to better; we must be humble enough not to too revel in our successes and not to dwell too long on our setbacks since our work is never done.
Everyone at Hornton is aware that in order to achieve our full potential, we must work hard and endure. While obstacles will arise along the way, how we handle them will reveal the essence of our character.
Everyone at Hornton is aware that to succeed, we must have optimism.
Nothing will change if we don't have the innate belief that we can constantly improve.
The challenge is to ALWAYS improve, to ALWAYS get better even when you are the best, to paraphrase the New Zealand Rugby Union Team.
We live by our core values of humility, perseverance, and self-belief, and I hope that as you start to explore the website and the school in person, you will see firsthand how they have shaped who we are today as both individuals and as a thriving, aspirational rural primary school. I hold these qualities dear as both a person and a Head Teacher.
