From the Falinge Park High School
The atmosphere at our school is friendly and welcoming, and the kids receive excellent assistance and care.
In an effort to make Falinge the neighbourhood school in Rochdale, we are extending our outreach to parents and the community even further.
In the past three years, we have grown to be the first choice for students in our neighbourhood and are currently full in all year groups. We also have strong recruitment and retention strategies for highly specialised subject teachers, and we are fully staffed across the curriculum. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, our staff views each student as an individual and unique person whose potential is "unknown, and unknowable."
In my fifth year as the Head at Falinge Park High School, I am proud to see this as more than just a goal. It is our responsibility as teachers to bring this out of each student.
Being an inclusive school, we are aware that certain students may find it challenging to transfer to secondary school.
During your child's time with us, there are possibilities for networking events in addition to the two weeks of work experience that all of our Year 11 students complete.
Our team has a close working relationship with the University of Manchester Science and Engineering Research Innovation Hub, and one of our scientists has been assigned to the university to work alongside them, which will only open up additional prospects.
We have been named a regional hub for professional learning and development, a Parliamentary Ambassador school, a beacon school for Holocaust education, and we are starting a long-term project with the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation to examine social justice issues before a sizable festival occurs in 2020.
The reason for this is that, while academic success is vital, our school is very open to collaborating with others because we want to give our students the same chances that are available to students who attend the best private schools.
We were cautions in not adopting quick-fix solutions and have decided to take a more thoughtful approach to school improvement, according to our Ofsted inspection report from 2018.
When I applied for the headship at Falinge Park High School, I was clear that I wanted to build a "School with Soul"—a place where you want to be and where mistakes don't define you. It would be a place where you could take risks in a safe environment, make mistakes, and learn from them to get better. It would also be a place where the school worked with the community and where listening to one another was important.
When a school does it correctly, it becomes the centre of the neighbourhood and demonstrates a dedication to the area.
That is what we hope the Rochdale community school will be.
Falinge Park High School will always be happy to have you.
