Falconhurst School

In October 2013, I joined the Falconhurst Board of Governors, and in September 2014, I was elected Chair of the Governing Body.
I left a senior position at The Open University at the end of 2012, but I thought that serving as a school governor would allow me to continue to contribute to education.
Eleven governors make up the Governing Body I chair, and they all volunteer their time to make Falconhurst the greatest school it can be.

Falconhurst spends roughly 1.8 million annually, the majority of which is used for payroll.
Our responsibility is to ensure that every dollar is used wisely and that we receive value for our money.
Everything we do is governed by the law, for instance, we have employment obligations to the Falconhurst employees and additional duties to ensure the safety of all students at school.
These are significant responsibilities for volunteers, but we are dedicated to our work and make excellent use of the training programme that Milton Keynes Council offers for governors.

Of course, compared to what you do for your children as parents and carers, what we as governors can do is minuscule.
