At Elmfield, welcome to a new semester. We hope you had a fantastic summer and relished the warmth and spectacular Olympics. We've only recently returned, but already we've noticed many happy expressions as everyone gets used to their new routines and classes. All of our GCSE students deserve congratulations for their performance this year. The first of the class 10 tests that students will take this year has already been taken. Since class 11 has completed all of their GCSEs, 73% of them are graduating with five or more A* to C marks. On top of this we also had one pupil who joined us very late and who, due to illness, only took two GCSEs at Elmfield but achieved a C in both to add to the five GCSEs which they already had. 92% of our C11 leavers left with A* to C in English language and Maths and 100% of the pupils who took German, English Literature and Music achieved A* to C in those subjects. For students who completed science courses, 80% in Physics, 75% in Chemistry, and 89% in Biology received grades of A* to C. The fact that 86% of the tests were graded A* to C shows how hard all the students and faculty have worked. This term, we have a number of new staff members that we would like to welcome with open arms. Numerous fruit plants by the polytunnel are another recent addition that will be great for students to harvest in the future. And during the course of the summer, the vegetable patch next to Class 4 produced a wonderful crop of runner beans.
