The current school structure was constructed in 1891, and since then, several additions have been made to the school. The school's current Voluntary Controlled status reflects its long-standing ties to the St. John the Evangelist parish church. The school is named after Dame Anne Tipping, a daughter of Sir Thomas Cheke of Pyrgo, who was a Constable of the Tower of London in Stuart times. The school's name honours Dame Anne's bequest for the education of neighbourhood kids. While making sure they obtain an education suitable for the modern world, we teach our students to respect and appreciate the customs of the past.
