From the Columbus School and College
After a fascinating journey that began in 2000, Columbus School and College (CSC) was founded. Prior to becoming CSC, The Hayward School in Maltese Road and Chelmsford Woodlands School in Patching Hall Lane were two different special needs schools. Children with severe, numerous, and complex learning disabilities, aged 319, were served by Woodlands School. Hayward School served 416 students with autism and mild learning disabilities. In order to create Chelmsford New Model Special School, which has a single governing board, the two schools federated in 2005. Hayward Campus and Woodland Campus were the two campuses. The two institutions officially combined on September 1st, 2009 to establish Columbus School and College. Children from Nursery through Year 10 are currently enrolled at the school campus in Patching Hall Lane, and Year 7 through Year 11 students are currently enrolled at the college campus in Maltese Road. Students in years 12 through 14 attend the FE Department at the college.
